Holistic Center Of Excellence Open Night Review
The Holistic Centre Of Excellence is a school that teaches holistic therapies, located on the grounds of Glenstal Abbey in county Limerick.
Glenstal abbey is one of the oldest monestaries in Ireland.
On the 1st of May this year, the Holistic Centre of Excellence held an open night in Murroe, County Limerick. This event was to inform people about the courses being offered in September and to answer questions hopeful students had to enroll for the upcoming academic year.
The presentation started with Anna Gibson Steel, who is the CEO of the school. Anna described her background, and how over the last ten years she had been training therapists from her private clinic. When demand for her one to one services became too much for her to cope with, it was obvious a new school was needed to cope with the demand.
Diane Hanagan, who is the Head of Education in the Holistic Centre of Excellence, talked about the structure of the academic year and what modules are taught. There are 36 modules planned for the coming year. The core of the subjects that a student would be examined on are Anatomy and Physiology, Holistic Massage and Reflexology. The presentation finished with Belinda Murphy talking through the business modules and the outreach program. The outreach program organizes the school to visit with local charities, businesses and social services to provide therapeutic treatments. This program gives the students experience in the procedures of treating people while also providing therapies for people in need of these sercices..
After watching the presentation I was blown away by the combination of so many subjects and how professional the team are at the school. The level of knowledge of professionalism is very impressive.
I would love to attend the Holistic Centre of Excellence for the Holistic Diploma on offer. The course provides you with a broad range of learning of therapies. It is also significantly cheaper to do the course than doing each module one at a time.

Meditation for a Busy Mind
I come from a family of what I would call “Over thinkers”.
I spent my youth making snap decisions and responses to a busy lifestyle, staring at the ceiling at night unable to go to sleep, churning through different scenarios over and over and over.
Rarely a time for internal silence. I wouldn’t have thought it possible. In fact, I thought it was a trait to be this busy mentally.
In more recent times, I recall getting a call from my mother telling me my younger teenage brother was driving her crazy at home. He’s up all night and can’t get out of bed in the morning. He’s regularly in bad humor, does nothing around the house and argues constantly with your father. He’s hanging around with the wrong crowd and I think it’s only a matter of time before he gets into trouble. I responded without thinking. “Mum… he’s 16 years of age. He needs to come in the door in the evening EXHAUSTED”.
It was the start of the Summer, and my brother was marched out to a farm outside our home town of Limerick in Ireland to join a horse riding school.
He resisted at first, but each morning he was driven out bright and early, and collected later in the evening. His resistance slowly subsided and he started to tell my Mum that there was no need to collect him until later in the evening as there was a lot going on to keep up with.
He was very good with the horses, and made friends quickly with the other students. He soon became the right hand man of the owner of the school, required to help other students, wash down the horses, feed them, clean out the stables, you name it, he was doing it. Then it was time to go horse jumping at major competitions around the country. He started to bring home ribbons from horse jumping competitions he won. My mother recalls how when she would pick him up to bring him home in the evenings, he would fall asleep in the car. Her beautiful teenage son was back. He slept all night, was bright as a button in the morning time and ready for horse riding all over again the next day.
I write about this now because I read Tynan’s post on Friday “The Basics” about isolating the important things in life to get good at that would have the greatest return in ones performance and general contentment.
Meditation was at the top of his list. For over thinkers like me, meditation can be a an elusive concept. But I tripped over a sequence of activities that had a big impact in my own life’s contentment.
The first being Exercise. I started playing racket ball with friends and quickly became addicted to it. I played 3 times a week after work in the evening times, and it transformed my state of mind. For some reason, I was more relaxed than I was without exercise. I also had an air of confidence I didn’t have before. I seemed to walk that bit taller… not with arrogance, but I felt like I was more in tune with myself. Racket ball is also a team sport. I mention this because running and working out in the gym isn’t as enjoyable for me as racket ball is.
The second big impact for me was food. Now that I was exercising so regularly, my natural appetite changed. I seemed to change my likes and dislikes of food automatically without making a conscious decision about it. I was drinking more water, eating more selectively. But not because I was dieting or on a program or a plan. It was like I loaded a different .exe file and was running a different application than the usual one… a healthier one at that.
The third was my schedule. I seemed to start getting more organized in my day to day activities. Not because I decided to get more organized, but because I seemed to become more organized without a lot of effort on my behalf. I seemed to be that bit less chaotic and irked by things not going my way.
The penny dropped for me when I lay in bed one night a short time after I started playing racket ball. I lay there, quietly, eyes open…. and a short time later noticed for a moment that I was completely silent in my mind. Of course noticing this was an interruption. But this was absolutely new to me. Over the course of the following weeks, something amazing and new started to regularly occur. In bed before sleep, I would enter what I call a vacuum or a void. A place of expanse that had a sense to it that came from my chest. Eyes closed, breathing at the slowest pace, a single point of focus would appear in my mind’s eye…. a dot….Stillness…. and later a vertical line would appear like clock-work out of the darkness. A few moments later it explodes like a bomb blast.
I won’t go any further in my description. But I do want to point out that for me, physical exercise was the starting point for a new and very positive experience.
I think Exercise is the birthing place for the ability to focus, to become silent, to live more in the moment, to see the brighter side of life, to concentrate better, to have a more balanced view, to eat better, to sleep better, causing our lives to be that bit less chaotic.

This condition familial and although Aron had not been able to see properly from an early age, he had still continued his education, becoming a champion rower, and was now pursing his dream of working as an Energy Healer. I had used the Solfeggio frequencies in a number of seasons at this point, playing and intuitively feeling my way around the vibrations. What happened with Aron while using frequencies was astounding.
“On the 26th of January, I arrived at Mary Helen’s office which was located on the third floor of a shopping mail in Dun Laghaire, County Dublin. I was nervous and very curious about this lady. I met her, took off my shoes and layup on a massage be. I was asked what I wanted out of my this season. Aron
When Aron began to chant, I must admit, at first, it was a little on the freaky side. Once I realised that there was a pattern, a dialologe taking place, I relaxed and watched as he began to draw symbols in the air as if he were telling himself some story long forgotten. The information about his soul’s plan to impair one of the major senses over the course of five lifetimes absorlutely fascinated me. In order to sharpen them all, he had decided to go without one at a time, heightening each of the other faculties along the way. Aron walked in India in his deep state of relacation, but the language he spoke sounded more like a form of the Senetic language of Aramaic. With each frequency, Aron described a very specific taste and smell, while remaining in a trance-like state. The lower viberations were tronger, heavier aromas, while the higher to smell sweet in their taste. The season with Aron provided deeper insights into the power of using the 3,6,9 harmonies to access the memory at a celluar level.
I was only getting started.

The Sky That Amazes Us All In Wonder
One Tuesday morning I went for a walk in a forest located in the country side of Limerick. During that walk I found the inspiration to write a poem. The idea was to draw comparisons and differences to both nature and human.
The Sky

As humans we have an urge to fly in the sky, be able to move in the air with no limitations. Men have made these gigantic birds of metal so they can fly in the majestic sky.
In the morning the sun raises out of his super king mattress to tell the world that Sammy is alive and kicking. He tells every living particle of the earth to get up now. The sun represents the beauty of love in all living objects on this chemical planet.
On a clear night the stars are like freckles on a face. You get the feeling of this excitement rushing up your spine eliminating every problem in your life. The moon and the sun are yang and yang in the balance mother nature life.
The birds use this super highway to migrate during the change of seasons. They are feeding off mother natures commands and adapt to your polluted ways.
Our weather patterns are produced by mans massive, stinky feet, which makes our weather patterns change.
The sky is also a man who thoughts dictate our weather and many more. In a fact the sky is an abondence of freedom that man kind are too busy to hear the fruit of god and Mother Nature.

Six Ways to Enhance Your Health and Vitality
Ayurveda, the Eastern Indian system of self-healing, is translated as “the science of daily life.” In other words there is an actual science to the understanding and execution of one’s daily routine that is designed to promote balance and overall wellbeing.
Ayurveda, the Eastern Indian The system is based on three doshas – three specific types of energy configurations that comprise all of life in the physical world. Since all of the information in Ayurveda is in Sanskrit, a sacred Indian language, the terms require an English translation. The three doshas are: Vata, which is air and space, Pitta, which is fire and water and Kapha, which is earth and water. Let’s take these one at a time.
Vata
Although air and space sound like the same thing, they are really very different. Space signifies an emptiness, and air is what fills up the space. Vata governs the nervous system. Without it nothing would move in your body. Vata is the only dosha that moves. It makes your eyes blink, your blood flow, and it is responsible for all those interesting and sometimes humorous (embarrassing) bodily noises. Vata primary people are small boned, prone to dry hair, dry skin and constipation. They are also creative, fast thinkers and talkers, and occasionally a bit spacey.
Pitta
This dosha is fire and water, but this water is more like digestive juices, blood and bile. Pitta people are lean, athletic, competitive types and perfectionists. They are prone to infections, loose stools and burning disorders like ulcers and heavy bleeding. They are also very smart and quick minded; they like things done their way and organized to their liking.
Kapha
Kapha primary people are voluptuous like Marilyn Monroe and Angelina Jolie. All the classic beauties are Kapha primary. They have a tendency to put on weight if they do not work out and eat sensibly. Kapha crave sweet and creamy which can be their downfall. They tend towards congestive disorders such as excess fluid in the lungs and body, impacted lymph tissue and oily skin. They are the most compassionate and easy going of the three doshas. They also have the most physical stamina.
Every person is made up of a unique combination of all three of these energies. As a matter of fact anything that is living be it animal, vegetable or mineral is made up of these three energies. From an Ayurvedic viewpoint life is defined as these three energies coming together, and death is when these three energies fall apart. It is essential to know what energy is your primary constitutional element, as well as your secondary and tertiary elements. Also important, in order to maintain optimal health and longevity, is to know your proclivity for imbalance.
The focus of Ayurveda is about achieving balance. This is accomplished by knowing what opposite energies to apply to your life and when to apply them. For example, Vata people crave dry crunchy things like salads made with cold, rough, raw vegetables. Because the Vata element is cool and dry, people who are Vata primary tend to run on the cold side and have a low digestive fire, making these salads tough to digest. Vata primary people are best served eating warm liquidly things like stews and soups or things with plenty of oil (ghee). Vata primary people are already too cold and dry; they need to apply warm and hydrating energies to balance themselves both physically and emotionally. In Ayurvedic terms, once the body goes out of balance, the emotions and mind are going to be affected as well. Vata people like forms of exercise, such as jumping and running, that will provoke the Vata element. Instead, swimming in warm water or doing slow exercises that build core strength would best serve them.
There is a law in Ayurveda called “like unto like.” It means that you will be attracted to energies similar or related to your predominate energy. For a Pitta person that means engaging in competitive or judgmental events. Pitta people like to be better than others. Pitta primary people make great engineers because of their fiery, cut through the problem oriented minds. Pitta people are perfectionists. They hold themselves to a high standard… and everyone else as well. Pitta people usually like alcohol and salty, spicy and hot foods. They want that martini or wine with fish, red meat, carrots, beets, tomatoes and diary products. For balance, what they need are the raw cold salads the Vata people want to eat, with little or no meat/diary products. Their best forms of exercise are slowing down, yoga, using the balance ball, or swimming… minus the competition. Taking a shot glass of aloe vera gel 2-3 times, spread throughout the day, is a Pitta person’s best friend.
Kapha folks, oh, how they love their sleep. They enjoy being at rest and letting everything physically engaging take a back seat. Kapha primary people hate exercise and despise diets. Their motto is, “Salads are for rabbits.” They crave ice cream, cookies, cake, potato chips, fried foods and fast foods. They prefer to kick back and watch the Vata and Pitta people run around and get everything done that needs to get done, because life is too short. What a Kapha primary person really needs to stay fit and healthy is to get up before 6am and start the day with some kind of aerobics, getting sweaty and getting the heart pumping. They should eat only citrus fruit or berries for breakfast. They need to keep moving, with not too much sitting, and not too many carbohydrates, like Pitta they are best served avoiding animal products as well. They need to avoid sweets and take those salads away from the Vata people. Oil is the enemy of any Kapha person; they already have too much: excess water weight and oily skin.
Ayurveda is not for the faint of heart or for those deeply invested in denial about their shortcomings and self-sabotaging habits. It takes dedication, perseverance and a willingness to change what you are most comfortable with. Knowledge brings power. Ayurveda is all about taking your power back – balancing your energy by knowing what will resolve your present energetic heath issues and offering you a greater path for personal growth and happiness.
