Dan Oates is a retired Educational Outreach Specialist and teacher at the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and the Blind. He works at Space Camp as the Education Program Manager during the summer and contracts low vision services during the school year.

For thirty years, he has been helping thousands of visually impaired and blind learners and teachers experience Space Camp through a program called SCIVIS – Space Camp for Interested Visually Impaired Students. Oates has surrendered his summers and his free time to bring life to this program. 

Dan has been the coordinator of SCIVIS in Huntsville, AL, and the instrument in bringing over 3,200 students to spend a week in space.
